Polowat is located in the northwestern region Oksoritod, and there in the western area Pattiw of Chuuk state. The location is 07°21′26″N 149°12′01″E. The atoll has five islets including itself lying on the rim of the reef, with an aggregate land area of 3.4 km², listed counterclockwise starting at Polowat in the southeast:
- Alengelap north rim. (Alengelap северного края)
- Haw south. (Хо Южная)
- To north rim. (К северному краю)
- Alei west. (Алей Запад)
- Polowat east. (Полуват востоке)
From Polowat Atoll has only a small lagoon, compared to most of the Micronesian atolls, the total area is only 7 km2. Aley in the West and Polowat in the East, the two largest Islands of the Atoll, there are breadfruit trees in the middle and coconut palms along the shore. Along the Northern edge of the reef, between Polowat and Aley are Alengelap the islet and the islet. The southern corner of the Atoll is designated as an island, with 0.02 km2, the smallest. These small islets, rocky and wooded, but there are a few coconut trees.

There are three villages on the Western side of the island of Polowat, overlooking the lagoon, with a total population of census 1.015 2000, from North to South:
Uranie Bank, which extends about 26 km South-East from Polowat, has depths of 11 to 61 meters. Along with Polowat Atoll, it can be considered part of a larger, mostly submerged Atoll structure, with a total area of 332 km2.
Enderby Bank, with a depth of 16 m, coral, lies about 5 km West-North-West of the island Aley.
